Competitive Global Market THe Case of Novartis...

In 2014 Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation (NPC) took the first place on the DiversityInc Top 50 List (DiversityInc, 2014). More than twelve hundred companies participated in the annual survey, but only 50 companies were nominated. NPC, a company with more than eight thousand employees, was able to achieve this result because of creative initiatives and strong leadership support. Thus â€Å"the executive leadership team’s annual performance-management goals include a 20 percent weighting toward people-related objectives, which have specific diversity objectives†. This department helped develop a strategic planning process and build†¦show more content†¦The second problem is underestimation of direct connection between high absenteeism rates and consideration of diversity groups in the workplace. Without exact understanding of each diversity group’s needs and concerns, the company cannot estimate and appreciate employee’s performance, and as a result the employees don’t fully engage themselves at work.. These two main problems cause poor performance and decrease level of motivation among employees, which leads to the company not performing at its best. In order to address these problems the company should realize that only good diversity strategy can help improve this situation. First recommendation for EchoStar is to create the diversity initiative team. This can be done in two ways: a new diversity department with dedicated position of Chief Diversity Officer, or a diversity team within the HR department. This diversity team should create strategic planning and become the main driver of diversity initiative. Second step is to explain the necessity for the diversity team to the employees. This message should be very clear and should be delivered during one of the all employee meetings. The third step is to conduct a survey . This step is the most important initial action for EchoStar. Using the results of the survey the company will be able to understand current diversity situation, set-up goals and eliminate obstacles.
